New Delhi, 09 July—In a determined attempt to mount pressure on the Modi government, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Thursday announced that it would hold a peaceful march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament on July 20, the opening day of the Monsoon Session.
Making the announcement on the 11th day hunger strike of peace and climate activists Sonum Wangchuk, the CJP said the protest would seek accountability over repeated examination failures and alleged paper leaks.
Wangchuk appealed to people across the country to join the proposed march, arguing that Parliament is the place where students’ concerns should be heard and accountability sought.
CJP spokesperson Vijeta Dhaiya told media: “We want to mobilise the peaceful protest. Since the government is not listening to our demand of Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, we want to move closer to them in order to make sure they hear us loud and clear.”
Addressing supporters through his appeal, Wangchuk said, “If you truly want me to stay alive, don’t just send messages from your homes. Come to Delhi and join me in a peaceful march to Parliament. Together, we can ensure that our voices are heard at a place where laws are made.”
The party said the march would be held in memory of the students who lost their lives following “repeated failures” of India’s examination system. It said students, parents and citizens from across the country had been called upon to participate in the demonstration.
