NEW DELHI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Ayodhya Police has identified 17 accused individuals in the donation theft scam though it publicly named only eight, with the Supreme Court scheduling further hearing on the matter the next week when its summer vacation ends.
The trust running the temple has accounted for Rs 3,264 crore in donations and Rs 2,370 crore spent on construction.
The massive Rs 1,900 crore temple complex is nearing its final stage. Major public-facing shrines and landscaping are complete, and the full handover from construction firms to the Trust is underway.
The Uttar Pradesh government is pushing forward with a ₹797.68 crore beautification and infrastructure package surrounding the temple area.
During peak celebrations like Ram Navami, the Trust has moved to digital screens and VIP pass restrictions to safely manage massive crowds witnessing events like the Surya Tilak.
In view of the donation theft scam, the trust is overhauling its leadership. It has also blocked VIP passes issued by the former officials, including general secretary Champat Rai, to ensure general public is not inconvenienced.
The construction of the temple complex is officially complete. . Larsen & Toubro and Tata Consultancy Services concluded the core project, leaving the site as of mid-2026. The main shrine and surrounding temples were finished by late 2025, with Prime Minister Modi conducting the flag-hoisting ceremony.
The main shrine of Ramlalla is accompanied by six additional temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Hanuman, Surya Dev, Maa Bhagwati, and Maa Annapurna, along with a Sheshavatar Mandir.
