NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day following Opposition ruckus over police action against NEET protests. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju appealed Opposition to maintain restrain saying Amit Shah was ready to come to the House and give a reply on Wednesday itself.
Rijiju said, “Opposition shouldn’t run away from debate on students’ issues when Home Minister is ready to answer all their questions.” However, the Opposition continued to raise slogans relentlessly prompting the chairperson to adjourn the House for the day.
Congress leader and Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi told media that the Opposition is not interested in listening to Home Minister Amit Shah’s “lecture” in Parliament, and asserted that the younger generation of the country wants to know who ordered that protesting students be shot at with pellet guns. “Who gave the order to beat up the students with lathis with nails? Did Amit Shah give this order to shoot our children? If he did, then he should resign. For the last 20 days, Amit Shah has been missing. The Home Minister of India has no courage; he cannot come to the House,” Gandhi said.

Meanwhile, the government is set to push forward pending bills in the Parliament as the house is set to adjourn sine die on Thursday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to present The Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026 and The National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration and passing in the Rajya Sabha.
In a chat with the media in the Parliament House precincts, Rahul said: “We are not interested in listening to Mr. Amit Shah’s imagination. We are not interested in him giving us a lecture, or a discussion. We are interested in one simple thing, and when I say, ‘we’, I mean, the younger generation of this country. Who shot those students? Who gave the order to shoot those students? Who blinded one of the students? Who shot one of the students in the ear? Who gave the order to beat the students with lathis with nails? Who gave that order?
“That order was implemented by the Home Ministry. Delhi Police and RAF are both Home Ministry systems. Did Mr. Amit Shah give this order to shoot our children, or did he not? If he did, he should resign, because he is culpable, and if he did not, he should resign, because he is incompetent.”
“The question is not whether Mr. Amit Shah comes and …. We don’t care what he has to say, okay! First of all, the most important thing to understand is that he was coming to Parliament but not attending either House for the past 20 days,” Rahul said, pointing how 30 cars escorted Shah every day and there are a thousand police force around his residence.
