New Delhi, 31 October— Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah and journalist Nidhi Razdan gave a pleasant surprise to both media and political world with the announcement of their marriage in New Delhi on social media today by sharing photographs.
Marriage was solemnised under the Special Marriage Act on Friday, with family members from both sides as witnesses, according to a source close to the newly wedded couple.
In a post on X, Abdullah wrote: “A new journey began yesterday”.
“It’s done bro,” Razdan wrote on X. Both posts included a ring emoji, and each tagged the other.
Abdullah’s post included four photographs of the couple.
Wedding functions in Srinagar and New Delhi were attended by family members and close relatives from both sides, media reported.
Those present included Abdullah’s parents, Farooq Abdullah and Mollie, his three sisters, and Razdan’s parents, veteran journalist and former Editor-in-Chief of Press Trust of India Maharaj Krishan Razdan and Sarla Razdan.
The announcement comes three months after the Supreme Court granted a divorce to Abdullah and Payal Abdullah by mutual consent on July 31, following a settlement between them.
Omar and Payal Abdullah got married in 1994 and have two sons, Zahir and Zamir Abdullah.
The Supreme Court’s order recorded that they had been living separately since 2011 and had agreed that their marriage had broken down irretrievably. Under the settlement, they also agreed to withdraw all pending cases against each other.
This is the second marriage for both Abdullah, 56, and Razdan, 49.
Razdan, a former executive editor and news anchor at NDTV, was previously married to journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra. They married in 2005 and divorced in 2007.
