2026 UNION BUDGET ON SUNDAY 

NEW DELHI ,31 Jan 2026 : For the first time, the Union Budget will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Sunday as the Modi government wanted to continue with the practice initiated in 2017 by then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to bring out the budget on February 1.

The industry stakeholders across sectors have begun outlining their expectations from the government, hoping the budget will address pressing economic priorities and growth challenges. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her ninth Union Budget in Parliament, a significant milestone as the government prepares to lay out its fiscal roadmap for the coming year.

The Budget session will span 30 sittings over 65 days, concluding on April 2, 2026. The two Houses will adjourn for a recess on February 13, 2026 and reconvene on March 9, 2026 to enable the Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants of various Ministries and departments.

The session began on January 28 with the address by President Droupadi Murmu to the joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Sitharaman on January 29 tabled the Economic Survey 2025-26 in both Houses of the Parliament, providing an official assessment of the performance of the economy in the ongoing financial year, and listed out the challenges being faced by the nation. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned soon after, to meet on February 1, 2026, for the presentation of Union Budget. It will be the ninth consecutive budget to be presented by Ms. Sitharaman, a historic first by a woman Finance Minister in India.
