CANADA REVOKING CITIZENSHIP OF 26/11 MUMBAI TERROR HEAD TAHAWWUR RANA

NEW DELHI, Feb 2026,: The Canadian government has reportedly started proceedings to revoke the citizenship of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Tahawwur Hussain Rana. The move comes ahead of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to India on February 26, as Ottawa seeks to reset ties with New Delhi, soured under the previous Justin Trudeau government.

Pakistan-born businessman Rana is currently in custody in India, where he is awaiting trial on charges related to the Mumbai terror attacks carried out by Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. More than 160 people were killed by terrorists in the 2008 attack.

Canadian publication Global News reported that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has communicated to Rana that it intends to strip him of the Canadian citizenship he obtained in 2001. The 65-year-old had immigrated to Canada in 1997.

The Canadian government’s move to revoke Rana’s citizenship is reportedly not based on terrorism allegations against him. In its notice, the IRCC stated that Rana’s citizenship was granted based on misrepresentation. The department alleged that he provided false information regarding his residency in Canada while applying for citizenship in 2000.
