PRIYANKA ATTACKS BJP IN ASSAM OVER UNEMPLOYMENT

NEW DELHI ,2 April 2026 : Congress MP and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday accused the BJP government in Assam of not working for the people’s welfare. She accused it of delaying the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six indigenous groups and promised free treatment and permanent land pattas to 10 lakh people in the state.

“The BJP government has not worked for the people of the state. Unemployment has been rising. Everybody is suffering under the BJP rule,” she told a rally in Khowang constituency in Dibrugarh district.

She was campaigning for Lurinjyoti Gogoi, a candidate of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), which is in alliance with the Congress.

Gandhi also criticised the implementation of welfare schemes, alleging that women beneficiaries of the Orunodoi program were being forced into attending political rallies.

“The women are being forced to attend rallies or are threatened with removal from beneficiary lists. That’s not how schemes should function,” she stated, adding that “public money does not belong to the Chief Minister.”

Highlighting the difficulties faced by the tea garden workers, a crucial voter base in upper Assam, Gandhi accused the BJP of failing on its wage promises. “The BJP had promised Rs 300-350, but even today, workers say only a marginal increase has taken place,” she noted.

She also outlined five Congress guarantees, including justice for singer Zubeen Garg within 100 days and financial assistance for women and senior citizens. “The Assam that Zubeen Garg dreamed about, which is corruption-free, is within reach if people come together for change,” she said.

“In Rajasthan, the Congress government has given free treatment up to Rs 25 lakh. If our government came to power in Assam, we would provide free treatment to the people and give 10 lakh permanent land pattas to the indigenous people of Assam,” she said.

Gandhi also campaigned for Congress candidate Bipul Gogoi in Tingkong and Debabrata Saikia in Nazira constituency.
