Lifeline In The Hills : Free Mega Health Camp Brings Expert Care To Uttarakhand’s Remote Villages

Yamkeshwar -Garhwal (Uttarakhand), April 2026: In a significant humanitarian initiative, a two-day free healthcare camp in the remote villages of Uttarakhand’s Yamkeshwar block has drawn widespread appreciation, as hundreds of underserved residents gained access to quality medical care rarely available in the region.

Organised under the aegis of Gyansthali Pustakalaya evam Vachanalaya, the camp was successfully conducted on April 3 and 4, 2026, in Gram Gadhkhal near Banchuri and Kashyayali village in Pauri Garhwal district. The initiative aimed to bridge the healthcare gap in hilly terrains, where access to government medical facilities remains limited.

The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from local communities, with more than 430 patients—women, men, and children—benefiting from consultations, diagnostic services, and free medicines over the two days.

Dr. D.S. Chauhan, Additional Superintendent of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Medical College, New Delhi, who led the initiative, said that a dedicated team of eight senior doctors, supported by Paramedics and Volunteers, provided comprehensive medical care across multiple specialties.

Specialists from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, New Delhi, offered consultations in Orthopedics, General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Pathology. On-site diagnostic facilities, including blood sugar tests, hemoglobin (HB) checks, and blood pressure monitoring, were also made available.

“Each patient was thoroughly examined, and several cases requiring advanced care have been referred to AIIMS Rishikesh and Dr RMLH in Delhi, for further investigation and treatment,” Dr. Chauhan said.

Importantly, all consultations and prescribed medicines were provided free of cost, ensuring that financial constraints did not prevent access to essential healthcare services.

Residents from surrounding villages expressed deep gratitude for the initiative, describing it as a rare opportunity to receive expert medical attention close to home.

Beyond treatment, the camp also focused on spreading awareness about health, hygiene, and preventive care. It stood as a beacon of hope for remote communities and reflected the continued commitment of medical professionals to serve society.

According to Dr. Chauhan, they have been organising such camps twice a year since 2016.
