NEW DELHI: Former MP Dr Udit Raj, chairman of the confederation of Dalit, OBC, Minorities and Adivasi Organisations (DOMA), on Tuesdsay claimed Delhi Police has refused permission to hold the Bhim Rally at the Ramlila Grounds here on the grounds of a very large gathering and high alert situation in the national capital.
In a press release, he said some 20 similar events have been organised in the past and never the permission was denied on the grounds of a large crowds.
According to him, the BJP harbors internal resentment toward the Bhim movement and opposes issues such as saving the Constitution and protecting voting rights.Among the issues raised by the rally were: protecting the Constitution, increasing the reservation limit beyond 50 percent, preventing vote tampering and ensuring elections via ballot papers, conducting a caste census, stopping interference in the Waqf Board, enforcing reservation in privatization, ensuring reservation in higher judiciary, filling vacant posts, land allocation for marginalized groups, equal education, ending the contractual labor system, protecting religious freedom, implementing reservation in government-funded projects, guaranteeing minimum support price for farmers, protecting Adivasi rights over water, forests, and land, and restoring the old pension scheme. Dr. Raj expressed that the Modi government shows hostility toward all these causes.
He said DOMA confederation had submitted application as early as July 4. He said violating the principle of first come, first serve, the police has permitted another organisation for a rally on November 29 and 30.
Leaders connected with his organisations said the cancellation was a targeted move against Dr Udit Raj, given his mass following and leadership strength.
