

NEW DELHI ,5 March 2029 : Congress on Thursday announced the names of 6 candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. Abhishek Manu Singhvi from Telangana and Phulo Devi Netam from Chhattisgarh have been re-nominated. Both are currently Rajya Sabha MPs.
The party has nominated Karamveer Singh Bodh from Haryana and Anurag Sharma from Himachal Pradesh. Anurag is the president of the Kangra District Congress Committee. He is considered close to Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
For the second seat in Telangana, Congress has fielded Veem Narender Reddy, who is considered close to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. In Tamil Nadu, Stalin’s party DMK has given one Rajya Sabha seat to Congress. Congress has nominated M. Christopher Tilak from here.
Meanwhile, BJP has also announced the names of 13 candidates in two phases. Besides Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is also contesting for the Rajya Sabha, amid speculation that he may be awarded a senior minister position in the Modi government. His successor in Bihar is not yet announcec.
BJP released its second list of 4 candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections from Maharashtra. It includes the names of Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, and Maya Chintaman Ivnate and Ramrao Wadkute.
A day earlier, on Tuesday, March 3, BJP had released its first list of party candidates for the Rajya Sabha. It included 9 names from 6 states. Now, a total of 13 candidates from 7 states have been announced.
Party’s national president Nitin Naveen will also be sent to Rajya Sabha from Bihar. Besides him, Shivesh Kumar’s name is also from Bihar. BJP has nominated Lakshmi Verma as a candidate from Chhattisgarh.
Terash Gowala, Jogen Mohan from Assam, Sanjay Bhatia from Haryana, Manmohan Samal, Sujit Kumar from Odisha, and Rahul Sinha from West Bengal are the candidates.
Elections for 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states will be held on March 16. Voting will take place between 9 AM and 4 PM on March 16, and votes will be counted at 5 PM on the same day.
Elections are to be held for the highest number of seats in Maharashtra (7), Tamil Nadu (6), and West Bengal-Bihar (5 each). The terms of Sharad Pawar, Ramdas Athawale, Kanimozhi, Tiruchi Siva, and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh are ending on April 2.
