NEW DELHI: Born in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on 24 February 1989, Umar Mohammad was a doctor at the Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad.

Investigators believe Umar escaped from Faridabad after he learnt that his associates had been arrested and 2,900 kg of explosives had been seized over the past few days. Sources say he “panicked” and triggered the blast near Red Fort, the 17th century Mughal-built monument that is one of the country’s most popular tourist spots.

“Umar Mohammad and his associates used Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) to carry out the attack. They placed a detonator in the car and carried out the terror attack in a crowded area near Red Fort,” sources said.

Investigations suggest the car changed hands multiple times. According to sources, the car was sold by one Salman, a resident of Gurugram to a man named Devender in Okhla in March 2025. Subsequently, Devender sold it to a man from Ambala.

From Ambala, the car reached Pulwama, where links between Aamir, Tariq and Umar Rashid emerged.

Investigations revealed that Aamir had given the car to Umar Mohammad.

Both Aamir and Tariq, arrested by Haryana Police, are being questioned by the Delhi Police team.

Shahin Shahid, who was associated with them, had been working below the radar to set up the women’s wing of the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in India, Delhi Police sources said.

Shahid had been working below the radar to set up the women’s wing of the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in India, Delhi Police sources said.

A resident of Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, she was arrested in connection with a massive explosives haul in Haryana’s Faridabad, a city at the interstate border with Delhi.

A professor at Haryana’s Al-Falah University, 45 km from Delhi, said the recent events have now brought clarity about what Shahid had been up to.

Shahid was handed charge of the India branch of the JeM’s women’s wing, Jamaat ul-Mominaat, headed by JeM founder Masood Azhar’s sister Sadia Azhar in Pakistan.

Shaheen had been in touch with Kashmiri doctor Muzammil Ganaie alias Musaib,  who worked at the same university. Ganale was arrested after 2,900 kg of explosives and inflammable material were recovered from his two rented rooms in Faridabad.

Investigators have found that a car that was used to store an assault rifle, a pistol, and ammunition belonged to Shahid. The Maruti Suzuki Swift, which has a licence plate with Faridabad’s code HR 51, was searched after the police questioned Ganaie.

These developments are now under investigation as linked with the suicide bomb attack near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday, which killed 12 people.
