Trailblazing Punjab Surgeon Earns Recognition for Landmark Innovations in Cardiac Care
New Delhi, On Oct. 12 At a glittering and prestigious ceremony held , Dr Harinder Singh Bedi, an eminent cardiac surgeon and director of cardio vascular sciences at Park Grecian Hospital, Mohali, was honoured for his outstanding contribution to the field of cardiac care. The award was presented by Ravinder Singh (Indraj), Minister for Social Welfare, Welfare of SC and ST, Cooperative and Elections department of NCT government of Delhi.

What is truly alarming is that 50 percent of all heart attacks among Indian men occur before the age of 50 and 25 percent get attacks before 40. Indians suffer heart attacks 10 years earlier than people in western countries, and the nation now carries 60% of the world’s total burden of heart disease. Any effort aimed at combating this crisis deserves the highest appreciation. Thus in view of all this, Dr Bedi’s contributions carry national significance.
The award was instituted by BEAT 2025 – Voice of Healthcare Group, which evaluated 500 eminent experts before selecting Dr Bedi. He was recognised as a pioneer of beating heart surgery in India—a breakthrough procedure that drastically reduces operative risks, cuts costs, and makes advanced cardiac care accessible to the common man.
The jury also noted his leadership in Vascular, Thoracic, and Cardio Vascular Surgery, along with his record of innovation. Dr Bedi’s achievements have been featured three times in the Limca Book of World Records. He was also instrumental in launching the Cardio Vascular Surgical Programme for the Fortis Group in 2001, laying the foundation for one of India’s most prominent healthcare networks.
The ceremony was graced by leading luminaries of cardiac surgery, including world renowned cardiac surgeon, chief cardiac surgeon and CMD Medanta–Medicity Gurugram, Dr Naresh Trehan, Dr Ashok Seth, chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Delhi,and Dr TS Kler, chairman and head of department, BLK-Max Heart & Vascular Institute Delhi, making the recognition even more distinguished.
Dr. Bedi’s profile and achievements at a glance
Dr Harinder Singh Bedi is a senior cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon with over three decades of clinical experience. He completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery followed by an MCh in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, and has trained and worked in leading centres in India and abroad, including Escorts Heart Institute and Australia.
Over his career, Dr Bedi has performed more than 20,000 heart and vascular surgeries. He is known for pioneering multi-vessel beating-heart bypass surgery and minimally invasive cardiac procedures in North India.
His expertise covers coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair and replacement, aortic aneurysm and dissection surgery, thoracic surgery, endovascular work, and pediatric cardiac procedures.
He has held leadership positions such as Head of CTVS at CMC & H Ludhiana and is currently associated with Park Grecian Hospital, Mohali.
He has contributed to scientific literature and has presented his work at national and international platforms. Many complex surgeries in the region were performed by him for the first time, including Bentall operations and hybrid procedures.
Dr Bedi is respected for his clinical skill, innovation, and compassion toward patients from all backgrounds. He is fluent in English, Hindi and Punjabi and is widely regarded as one of the senior figures in cardiac and vascular surgery in Punjab.
