SONAM WANGCHUK COMES OUT OF JODHPUR JAIL AFTER 170 DAYS OF INCARNATION

NEW DELHI,14March 2026 : Laddakh’s environment activist Sonam Wangchuk was on Saturday freed from the Jodhpur central jail after 170 days of incarnation under the National Security Act. The Centre withdrew the NSA against him.

He was arrested on September 24 by the Ladakh adminisstration and shifted to the Jodhpur jail on September 26. He was charged with provoking violence demanding the statehood to Ladakh that took the toll of four and injuries to 150.

The Centre’s decision came in the wake of the Supreme Court listing petition of his wife Geetanjali. A Home Ministry source said Wangchuk was released to restore peace, stability and mutual trust. The Home Ministry said the Centre is committed to resolve expectations of the people of Ladak through dialogue.

Experts say the Centre may set up a high-powered committee to resume talks with Ladakh leaders to put an end to protests and hartal for the past many months.
