

NEW DELHI The Election Commission Starts Preparation for Special Intensive Revision in Delhi.
Delhi starts preparing for a complete overhaul of its electoral roll, just as is currently happening in Bihar.
Tuesday morning, the website of the Chief Electoral Officer in Delhi uploaded the rolls published for the 2008 special intensive revision. Till Monday, the website was showing the electoral rolls from the special summary revision of 2025.
Voters of West Bengal also face unprecedented electoral roll revision. The ECI has informed the state officials that the controversial SIR of electoral rolls will soon be ordered in West Bengal which alike Bihar has already completed one review in January 2025.
New Delhi: The overhaul of the electoral roll in West Bengal could start as soon as early August, the state officials have been informed by the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, who represents the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the state.
Two state officials present in the virtual conference held by the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal have independently confirmed to The Reporters’ Collective that orders to undertake the Special Intensive Revision in West Bengal could come within this fortnight. Both preferred to remain anonymous because they are not authorised to speak on it.
“In the virtual conference, we were told to start preparing for it. Written orders should come soon,” one of them said.
The June 24 order of the Election Commission stipulates the countrywide special intensive revision of the previous SIR for the respective states will be tken up sa the confirmed voter list and those not included will need to produce documents to confirm citizenship.
In Bihar, the 2003 electoral rolls are being taken as the baseline, published after the SIR of 2002.
Publication of the electoral rolls from the previous SIR is the first step for the overhaul of the rolls in the state.
