TOP COURT CLOSES CONTEMPT PROCEEDINGS OVER COMMENTS AGAINST AN EX-JUDGE

NEW DELHI ,9 March 2026 : The Supreme Court on Monday closed suo motu contempt proceedings against Chandigarh-based YouTuber and Editor in Chief of Varprad Media, Ajay Shukla, for his alleged “scandalous, contemptuous and defamatory” remarks against a former Supreme Court judge.

The matter was disposed of by a bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma after Shukla tendered an unconditional apology through his lawyer. However, the Bench warned that any recurrence of such nature would attract severe consequences.

It may be recalled that Shukla had on the YouTube channel uploaded a video containing scandalous allegations against former Supreme Court judge Bela M Trivedi.

On May 30, 2025, a bench comprising former Chief Justice B R Gavai, Justice AG Masih and Justice AS Chandurkar initiated a contempt proceedings, noting that the allegations bring disrepute to the august institution of the judiciary.
