NEW DELHI: The Congress Working Committee will meet on 29 September to formulate its strategy regarding controversies surrounding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The meeting will bring together party general secretaries and state in-charges to deliberate on a future course of action, which may include nationwide protests against the Election Commission of India.
On Thursday, Lok Sabha Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi demanded an immediate resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. He told a press conference here that the two election commissioners are raising questions on the CEC. He said he had also raised questions but they were ignored.
He said now two election commissioners chosen by the present system are saying that Gyanesh Kumar was responsible for all the chaos and damage that has taken place in the voting system.
Rahul said the fact is that PM and Home Minister have attacked and destroyed democratic architecture of this country.
Person destroying India’s vote is desh-drohi, this is an act against Indian state and people, we refuse to sit silent, he said.
“Modi, Shah will be investigated for conspiracy to steal elections; we won’t let democracy be demolished, will not remain silent,” Rahul said.
“The Election Commission is the institutional protector of the vote. It is their responsibility to protect the vote. And everything arises from there. If the vote is destroyed, the Constitution does not function, laws are illegal and institutions mean nothing… And I am not speaking in the air. I have shown it with proof. Let me tell you, there is already more than enough information to make this 100 per cent certain, not 99 per cent, a 100 per cent certainty, that Indian elections, Lok Sabha elections, 2024 elections and Vidhan Sabha elections are all being rigged,” Rahul said.
He said: “The thing to understand here is that if the vote has been destroyed, then our Constitution has been destroyed. It no longer has its power. It no longer functions. If our Constitution has been destroyed, our laws are illegal. And if our laws are illegal, our institutions are meaningless. So, the central question here is that this is not just an attack on the vote. This is an attack on the idea, on the basic infrastructure, on the expression of every single Indian person. And we have been saying it again and again and again that there is a problem with the vote.”
Rahul said two ECs have done wise thing, Gyanesh Kumar should think seriously and turn approver, it’ll be in country’s interest:
