Double Bay of Bengal Weather Systems Threaten East Coast with Heavy Rain and Gales

At present, two low pressure areas are operating over the Bay of Bengal simultaneously. The
depression over Central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and it will concentrate into a cyclonic storm on October 26.The system will move westwards towards Andhra Pradesh coast and may cross the coast near Tuni on the evening of October 27. It appears the system will get weakened at the time of landfall. After landfall, the system will move northwards along the interior Odisha border up to east Uttar Pradesh  through Jharkhand.

The other low pressure formed over Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu coast is likely to move in a north-easterly direction and then veer north-west wards towards Ganjam district in the afternoon of October 28. Its movement appears to be very fast and it may become a depression on October 28 and then cross the Odisha coast. The wind speed may vary from 75 to 100 kmph on October 28 in south Odisha and adjoining districts.

Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely over Khordha, Kataka, Dhenkanal, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Ganjam,  Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts from October 26 afternoon till October 29 afternoon. Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Angul and Kandhamal will experience heavy rainfall during the period from October 26 to 29.There will be heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 28 in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Balangir districts.
