EC MANIPULATES VOTERS’ LIST BY SIR: KAPIL SIBAL

NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Wednesday alleged that the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) was being used to manipulate voter lists and urged the Supreme Court to stop the bulk deletions taking place under the exercise.

The former Union Minister also claimed that the ongoing revision of electoral rolls in various states was aimed at helping the BJP win elections.

Sibal’s remarks came amid fresh opposition criticism of the poll panel and a media report from Jharkhand. They also came a day after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi attacked the Election Commission, calling it the “BJP Kursi Bachao Aayog” and the “Vote Chori Aayog”.

Referring to a media report, Sibal said that in Jharkhand’s Godda district, BJP agents were seeking deletion of voters, mostly from the minority community, while Booth Level Officers, who are employees of the state government led by the JMM-Congress, had raised red flags over the issue.

In a post on X, Sibal said, “Politics of exclusion. BJP agents: Target Muslims, seek bulk deletions. Supreme Court needs to stop this!” He added, “SIR is an exercise: To manipulate the voters list. Help BJP win elections!”
