New Delhi, 12 August— Reflecting frustration over the Modi government’s unkept promises for ending the youth protests in the Union capital last month, Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhjit Dipke today said the CJP is getting ready to launch another round of street action. “Season 2 of Jantar-Mantar” while accusing the BJP of trying to stop the party from holding a volunteers’ meeting in Delhi.
The reference to ‘Season 1’ points back to the massive student-led agitation at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar last month. The demonstrations over exam paper leaks, student suicides, and calls for educational reform, turned up enough heat to force Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as education minister. The CJP then announced it would continue as a pressure group.
“Many people were commenting on Instagram when Season 2 of ‘Jantar-Mantar’ will begin. I want to tell them that Season 2 of ‘Jantar-Mantar’ is going to start very soon.”
Dipke also alleged that the party struggled to find a venue for its volunteers’ meet in Delhi, claiming that several hall owners refused to rent space because of “pressure from above”.
Dipke’s announcement signals that the CJP intends to return to street mobilisation even as it expands its activities beyond the earlier education-focused agitation.
The group has also announced campaigns focused on education and government schools, including its proposed “School Thik Karo” campaign for Independence Day.
Sources said that the ruling party’s ‘Dirty Trick Department’ has been working overtime to prevent a repeat of the youth protests that resulted in the resignation of an Union Minister causing an image meltdown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular and the party in general.
