NEW DELHI ,23 April 2026 : During the Supreme Court hearing on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea concerning alleged interference in the I-PAC raids, counsel for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee argued that court proceedings were being weaponised for political campaigning.
The lawyer submitted that “court proceedings are being used as a social media weapon for campaigning” and reiterated that the process was being misused for political ends.
On the other hand, the ED alleged a serious breakdown in law and order in West Bengal, claiming that a sitting Chief Minister had interfered with an ongoing investigation.
The agency contended that Banerjee entered the premises along with police personnel and removed documents linked to the probe. It further argued that this was not an isolated incident and accused her of repeatedly taking the law into her own hands when investigations did not align with her interests.
The case, the ED noted, pertains to an alleged illegal coal smuggling racket worth nearly ₹2,700 crore.
