NEW DELHI: Neeraj Kumar, newly elected Janata Dal (United) Member of the Legislative Council, responded to the Supreme Court’s cancellation of bail for Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh in the murder case of Dularchand Yadav by stating that it was Singh’s matter to handle and that he did not pay attention to “such people.”
Speaking in Patna on October 30, Neeraj Kumar said, “That is for him to deal with; it is his own affair. I do not pay any heed to such people.”
The Supreme Court directed Anant Singh to surrender to the authorities on or before December 1 after quashing the bail previously granted to him by the Patna High Court. A division bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and PV Varale stated that the High Court erred by granting bail without adequately considering the serious nature of the offence and Singh’s criminal background.
The bail order had been contested before the Supreme Court by Neeraj Kumar, the grandson of Dularchand Yadav.
The case pertains to the murder of regional political figure Dularchand Yadav on October 30, 2025, during an election-related clash in Mokama. Yadav was supporting Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi when supporters of his convoy allegedly clashed with Anant Singh’s convoy.
According to the FIR filed at Ghoswari police station, Singh and his aides reportedly forcibly removed Yadav from his vehicle, shot him in the leg, assaulted him and ran over him with an SUV. Singh claimed the incident was part of a political conspiracy, alleging that Jan Suraaj supporters attacked his convoy first.
Anant Singh was arrested on November 1, 2025, by Bihar Police and detained at Beur Central Jail. Despite being in custody, he won the Mokama Assembly seat on a JD(U) ticket. The Patna High Court had granted bail on March 19, 2026, leading to his release.
The Supreme Court’s order comes amid a political conflict between Anant Singh and the JD(U) party, which recently expelled him and his wife, Neelam Devi, for six years over alleged anti-party activities.
Anant Singh had publicly supported Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Kumar Singh in the Patna Graduates’ constituency MLC election, opposing JD(U)’s official nominee Neeraj Kumar. He was also accused of making remarks against the party leadership.
Following their expulsion, the Bihar state government removed Neelam Devi from her role on the State-Level Programme Implementation Committee, revoking her Minister of State rank and official bungalow entitlement.
Additionally, the JD(U) has petitioned Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar to disqualify Anant Singh under the Anti-Defection Law.
