NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh has stepped up security arrangements for several political leaders ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with 52 leaders being provided bulletproof jackets costing around Rs 10 lakh each.
The list includes Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati. The move comes as political parties intensify their preparations for the crucial state polls.
The bulletproof jackets have been issued in two phases as part of the security arrangements for political leaders in Uttar Pradesh.
Eight leaders received the jackets in the first phase, while another 44 received them in the second phase. Each jacket is estimated to cost around Rs 10 lakh.
The list includes leaders from different political backgrounds, including the BJP, Samajwadi Party and BSP.
Security arrangements have also been strengthened for several other BJP leaders, including Swatantra Dev Singh, Jaiveer Singh and Mahendra Singh.
In addition, 98 leaders and prominent individuals in Uttar Pradesh are set to receive different categories of security cover.
The latest measures come months before the state begins the final phase of political mobilisation for the 2027 Assembly elections.
The BJP has already started preparing for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with the party making key organisational appointments for the state.
BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde has been appointed as the party’s in-charge for Uttar Pradesh. Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel has been named co-in-charge.
The appointments underline the BJP’s focus on building its election strategy well ahead of polling in the country’s most populous state.
BJP focuses on caste and social equations
The BJP is also working to strengthen its social and caste equations in Uttar Pradesh.
Party leaders from other backward classes and minority communities are being given greater representation in organisational appointments as part of the wider strategy.
The BJP’s focus on different social groups is important in Uttar Pradesh, where caste combinations and community support can play a major role in Assembly elections.
The BJP has also started surveys across Assembly constituencies to assess its position ahead of the 2027 polls.
The surveys are focused on the party’s organisational strength, possible candidates and local issues that could influence voters.
Feedback from the surveys is expected to help the BJP identify potential candidates and assess its position across constituencies before the election campaign gathers pace.
