RAHUL TARGETS MODI GOVT OVER TATA ROW

NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the BJP-led government of treating Indian businesses as its “plaything”, alleging that business leaders were afraid to speak out amid an escalating dispute over the reappointment of N Chandrasekaran as Tata Sons Executive Chairman.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hit back at Gandhi, accusing him of politicising commercial and legal matters and spreading distrust against Indian industry.

In a post on X, Gandhi claimed that the Tata Group was being “criminally destroyed” and questioned why business leaders had remained silent over the controversy.

“Tata is being criminally destroyed and no business leader dares say a word. How long will you stay silent? Until they own you?” Gandhi said, asserting that Indian businesses were not the BJP’s “plaything”.

Responding to Gandhi, Sitharaman urged him to refrain from politicising every issue, saying it was unacceptable to casually label commercial and legal matters as criminal.

“Being the LoP, Rahul Gandhi, I suggest you refrain from politicising every issue. Also, casually labelling commercial and legal matters as criminal is unacceptable,” she said in a post on X.
