PARLIAMENT PANDEMONIUM DESPITE GOVT YIELDS TO DEBATE ON PAHALGAM
NEW DELHI: Pandemonium prevailed in Parliament forcing adjournment of both the Houses shortly after 2 pm on the fourth day of the monsoon session despite the government conceding full-fledged debate on Pahalgam and related issues.
In the business advisory committees, the government yielded to 16 hours of debate in the Lok Sabha and 9 hours in the Rajya Sabha. The ruckus continued as the Opposition insists on priority to the issues it has raised.
In the Rajya Sabha, the Opposition members in the well raising slogans for withdrawal of the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) of the electoral rolls in the poll-bound Bihar and wanted a discussion on it in the House. The Lok Sabha witnessed placards and slogans on various issues.
The monsoon session is meant to clear the government business, but the opposition has piled up over 20 issues on which they want immediate discussion.
No business has been conducted in the Lok Sabha since the monsoon session began on Monday while a decorum was witnessed in the Rajya Sabha up to 12.27 pm owing to the farewell to the retiring members.
Instead of the practice of the chair and the leaders of House and Opposition, presiding deputy chairman Harivansh allowed leaders of all parties to speak to gain time in peaceful proceedings. But the ruckus began as soon as he switched over to the question hour, forcing adjournment till 2 pm and then for the day.
The Lok Sabha was first adjourned in the morning till noon due to disturbances to the question hour and then up to 2 PM before the adjournment for the day in the repeat of action for the third day in a row.
