NEW DELHI: Delhi is proposing tighter rules for paying guest accommodations after the Satya Niketan building collapse raised serious concerns over student safety. The proposed framework includes mandatory licences for all PGs, a three-month deadline to obtain them, a cap of three months’ rent on security deposits, area-wise rent limits and night guards for PGs housing more than 12 students.
The key question remains whether these rules will bring real accountability and safety for Delhi’s students.

Days after the Satya Niketan building collapse, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday launched a demolition drive in east Deli against the unauthorised structures in Laxmi Nagar and Pandav Nagar on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s direction to use bulldozers against illegal constructions.
The action, however, drew allegations from the local residents that the enforcement was selective with similar multi-storey structures continue to operate in the area without facing comparable action.
