Ladakh leader joins Cockroch Janata Party protest

NEW DELHI: Activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk joined the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, urging the government to address students’ hardships and reform the existing education system. “I don’t like protests, but we have to do it for justice,” he said while backing the demonstrators’ demands.

Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, leading the protest seeking Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over alleged exam irregularities, said his mother feared he could be jailed for speaking out against the government, questioning how long citizens would continue to live in fear.

Addressing supporters, Dipke questioned how many more student suicides the authorities were waiting for and asserted that the movement would not stop until their demands are met.

At the protest, students ask Sonam to become their Education Minister but he reaffirmed that he has no intention of entering politics. “I want young people to take responsibility,” he said.

He also mentioned that he wants children of politicians and bureaucrats, to study and educate themselves in the government institutions itself.
