NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi will spend Thursday in Uttarakhand, where he is scheduled to address three separate gatherings across the state as part of his outreach programme.
According to the proposed itinerary, Gandhi will begin his day in the Kumaon region with a public meeting at 11:00 a.m. at the Soban Singh Jeena University Simkant Ground in Almora. The event is expected to draw party workers, students, youth and local residents from adjoining districts. Congress leaders have been mobilising supporters ahead of the visit and describe the programme as an important interaction with the people of the hill state.
Following the Almora engagement, Gandhi will travel to Garhwal, where he is scheduled to attend an interaction with ex-servicemen at Kandoliya Ground at 1:15 p.m. Uttarakhand has a large population of former military personnel and serving soldiers, making veterans’ issues an important political subject in the state. Gandhi has repeatedly raised concerns related to the welfare of ex-servicemen and armed forces personnel in Parliament and public forums.
His final engagement of the day is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Hulk Gym in Malviya Udyan, Kotdwar, where he is expected to interact with local youth. The visit assumes significance as Gandhi had earlier met Kotdwar-based gym owner Mohammad Deepak, whose case had attracted public attention and discussion on social media.
The Congress has described the two-day Uttarakhand visit on June 4 and 5 as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen grassroots outreach in the state. Party leaders expect the programmes to help galvanise workers ahead of future political challenges and elections in Uttarakhand.
